The Princess Mandarava

Padmasambhava meets Princess Mandarava in the garden of Zahor
Padmasambhava meets Princess Mandarava in the garden of Zahor

The king of Zahor had a daughter by the name of Mandarava. From a young age she displayed signs of being uninterested with mundane life. When she comes of age to be wed, many suitors arrive from the neighboring lands, but Mandarava shows no curiosity about them, as she has already given herself to the Dharma. Reluctantly, the Zahor king gives permission for his daughter to enter the spiritual path.

One day, while Mandarava and her attendants are in the garden, they come across Padmasambhava. The princess feels a great sense of trust and confidence towards the yogi and she invites him to her palace to impart his teachings.

During one of these teaching sessions, a cowherd passing by the palace hears a man's voice. The cowherd is curious — no men are allowed inside Mandarava's palace. He quickens his pace towards the village, full of tales to tell.
