More than 2,500 years ago, there was a king of the Shakya clan called Suddhodana. He married princess Maha Maya of the koliya clan. The capital of the Shakya country was laid out across the foothills of the Himalayas and was called Kapilavastu. One night Queen Maha Maya dreamt of a white elephant with six tusks. It was an auspicious dream, indicating the arrival of a special being.
